My mom made cutout cookies for every holiday and sometimes just for fun. She never made just one or two batches - she would always at least quadruple the batch because there were so many of us and she always gave some away too. We would all come and frost a few, and then she would stay up late that night frosting the rest.I remember telling my mom when I was first married, before I had kids, that I didn't think it was worth it to spend all the time and energy making cutout cookies.
As you probably guessed, I do follow my mother's example and we make cut out cookies, not always for every holiday, but at least every few months. It is fun to see what everyone comes up with when they decorate.
And let's be honest - as fun as it is to frost the cookies, it's even better when you get to EAT them!
It's one of our favorite things!
