Raking Leaves?

More like playing in the leaves!  It was a fun time and we did eventually get all the leaves cleaned up. :)

And finally back to WORK! :)

Young Women in Excellence

We just attended the YW in Excellence Dinner and Program with Katelyn.  The YW theme this year has been "Stand Ye in Holy Places."  So, they asked each of the young women to bring a pair of shoes that represents them, tell why it represents them and tie it into one of the YW values and something they have been working on in
their Personal Progress.

It was interesting to see the varied shoes that each girl brought and how they described themselves and shared their Value Experiences and Projects.  Katelyn took her tap shoes and talked about her divine nature and trying to stay true to values when the world is trying to get you to do otherwise.
They served homemade soup and rolls which were delicious!
Here are the YW in our ward, one of the Laurels had to leave early,
so she's missing in this picture.

The Park in November!

Our weather has been interesting this month.  We had a week or so of freezing cold, but then it warmed back up and on Sat., November 9th, we wore shorts to the park to play.

The younger boys played on the playground.
and Logan and Kate threw the football around with Jay.
We don't really know what to expect this winter, but it was great to take advantage of a nice, warm day and spend it together!

Logan is Playing...

Indoor Soccer?  It's true.  While living in Vancouver, Logan developed a love for the game of soccer.  He has become a huge Timbers fan and now for the first time in his life, he is on a soccer team.  It is a men's evening rec league and his team is the youngest by far (almost all are in high school or recent graduates this yea)r.  They are two games into the season now and are loving it!  Way to try something new Logan!

Blue Springs School of Economics

They don't dress up in costumes on Halloween at school here.  Each class had a harvest/fall party the Friday afternoon before Halloween.  On October 31st, Spencer and his class attended the Blue Springs School of Economics.  Each student had to apply for a job, have someone write a letter of recommendation for them outlining their strengths and why they would be a good fit for the particular job they applied for.  Spencer ended up being one of the accountants, so he wrote checks and made sure everyone got paid for completing their jobs.  His group also had a popcorn business.  The whole 5th grade spent the day in a mock city, buying and selling goods and services and trying to figure out the free enterprise system.
Spencer loved this!  They spent weeks preparing to go and participate.  The want-to-be mayors each had to give a speech outlining why he/she would be the best leader in the town and then be elected to office.  The money the students earned was spent on good food - like soda and soft pretzels!  Fun field trip!

Going Trick or Treating...

The Elephant, a Soccer Player, and a Fairy Princess...

This year Jay and I stayed home to pass out candy and we let Logan follow the kids around the neighborhood trick or treating.  We were busy!  This neighborhood is full of cute little ghosts and goblins
 - all looking for a yummy treat!

Carving Pumpkins...

Cut off the lid...
 Scoop out the guts...

 Carve a face...

 Fill it with light...

 Now we're ready...
And at the center of our table, looking round and fat and fine, sat a gleaming
Jack o Lantern with a twinkle in its eye!

The Church Trunk or Treat!

Kate was the Mad Scientist in the YW Haunted Hall.
